Will my horse be safe in an SQ Horsebox Hire horsebox?
Our horseboxes have been designed with your horse's safety in mind. We have a number of features such as the fully re-inforced aluminium floor, raised height breast bar and strategically placed tie-rings built in to the boxes to increase the safety of our equine passengers. Don't forget you can also keep an eye on your horse whilst in the cab using our dual camera system. Read more about the design and safety features of our horseboxes here.
What type of driving licence do I need to have?
The Stable Quarters Horsebox Hire horsebox can be driven on a standard UK driving licence, providing you have held a full licence for more than 2 years. Certain exclusions such as drink driving offences will prohibit you from hiring the horsebox, however certain minor convictions are still permissable - please call us to discuss if this affects you.
How old do I need to be to hire a horsebox from you?
The standard age to be accepted on our insurance policy is 25-75 years of age. If you are outside of this age bracket, it may be possible to make individual applications for cover to our insurers, who will consider each application on a case by case basis. Please contact us for further information if this affects you.
Will I be insured to drive the horsebox?
Yes - Stable Quarters has a comprehensive vehice insurance policy which provides cover for you whilst you hire the box from us. The insurance is compulsory and is included in the price of hire. To include you on the policy, each hirer and any other drivers will be required to bring their photocard driving license and provide the new DVLA one time access code for hire companies to check their licence endorsements up to 72hours prior to collection (details can be found here). You will also need to bring with you two recent utility bills from the last three months containing details of your current residential address. Please note that the insurance policy is for the vehicle only and does not cover, or conflict with, any existing insurance policies that you may have on horses during transit.
What if I breakdown?
Included in the price of hire is comprehensive equine roadside assistance and recovery. If roadside repair of the horsebox is not possible, the horsebox will be recovered and fresh horse transport will be provided to get your horse(s) home or on to your destination from anywhere in the UK.

Do I need to clean the box before I return it?
The standard terms of hire are that the box should be returned in a reasonable state with the horse area poo-picked and cleared of hay. However, if you do not wish to fulfill this yourself, you can take advantage of our cleaning bolt-on and we will do it for you.
Where can I fill the box up with diesel?
The standard terms of hire require you to refill the box with diesel on your return. The nearest petrol station to us is the BP Three Counties Service Station 4 minutes away! Alternatively, you can take advantage of our refuelling bolt-on if you do not wish to refuel on your return journey.
